Mr. R. Kelly Holmes, Sr., age 86 of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN.
He was born December 6, 1929 in Bemis, TN to the late Hubert Logan and Sally B. Holmes. He was married on August 7, 1948 to Willadene Hailey Holmes to whom he has been married 68 years.
He worked for the Madison County Fire Department since 1958 till 2009, and serving as Chief of the Madison County Fire Department from 1975 until 2009. Kelly retired after 51 years of service...

Mr. R. Kelly Holmes, Sr., age 86 of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN.
He was born December 6, 1929 in Bemis, TN to the late Hubert Logan and Sally B. Holmes. He was married on August 7, 1948 to Willadene Hailey Holmes to whom he has been married 68 years.
He worked for the Madison County Fire Department since 1958 till 2009, and serving as Chief of the Madison County Fire Department from 1975 until 2009. Kelly retired after 51 years of service to Madison County. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Fire Chief's Association, and served as president of the Tennessee Fire Chief's Association for two years. He served on the Board of Directors for the Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. He also served as Director of Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management Agency from 1979 until 2004.
Kelly received the Jackson Exchange Club Man of the Year award in 1975 and received the American Red Cross Humanitarian Service Award in 2005.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Ada Holmes; and a sister, Opal Wyatt.
He is survived by his wife, Willadene Hailey Holmes of Jackson; his son, Ralph Kelly Holmes, Jr. of Jackson; his daughter, Donna Carol Holmes; daughter in law, Jackie Holmes; grandson, Joe Kelly Holmes (Carrie); and great granddaughter, Willow Grace Holmes
Funeral services for Kelly will be on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 12 Noon at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel with Rev. Walter German and Rev. Sharon Karamoko officiating. Burial will follow in Lester's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. two hours prior to the service.
Active pallbearers to serve will be Jackie Roach, Glenn Cooper, Don Mitchell, David Pruitt, Tommy Jordan, David Benfield, Tim Morris, and Brian Kemp.
Honorary Pallbearers to serve will be Freddie Pruitt, Jimmy Hill, and Bob May.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bemis United Methodist Church or Lester's Chapel Cemetery Fund.
